Dixie Gulf Arabian Horse Association June Schooling Show
CV Equestrian traveled to Baker, FL on Saturday to participate in the Dixie Gulf Arabian Horse Association’s Open All-Breed Horse Show. This is the first time CV Equestrian has been to a schooling show hosted by DGAHA, and we were quite impressed! It was held at the Baker Area Recreation Center, which boasts a sprawling equestrian center with tons of amenities. The show had an impressive turnout. Most classes had 10 riders or more! Even better, the show fees were exceptionally affordable at only $6 per class. This makes it a great option for horses needing show experience and riders just learning how to show.
Halter and western riding classes were held in the first half of the day. The CV Equestrian show team arrived early to watch some of the western classes and give the horses a chance to settle in.
CV Equestrian young rider Maddie was first on deck aboard Wait Your Turn (“Turner”). This was Maddie’s very first horse show! She was admittedly nervous when we first arrived at the show grounds. Under Coral’s careful guidance, Maddie warmed up in the main arena before the start of the english divisions.
Maddie ultimately had nothing to worry about! She rode very well and brought home lots of good ribbons for her first schooling show. In her first class, English walk/trot ages 7-13, Maddie and Turner earned 3rd place out 11 riders! She was so excited about earning her “golden” ribbon, she didn’t want to stop showing at the end of her division!
Schooling shows are a great way to expose inexperienced horses to the sights, sounds and routines of bigger horse shows at a lesser cost. Tiffany, one of CV Equestrian’s adult riders, brought along Boomerang (“Boomer”) to help get him back in the routine of going to horse shows. Boomer is a 7 year old Morgan cross pony in a full training program at CV Equestrian to prepare him for sale. Sadly, his owner outgrew him and now Boomer needs a new little girl or boy to spoil and love him. He will continue to be shown in Baker as well as the SHJA circuit in Tallahassee until he is sold.

Overall, our first trip to Baker, FL for the Dixie Gulf Arabian Horse Association Open All-Breed Horse Show was a great success! We are very proud of our young rider, Maddie, for her accomplishments among tough competition her first time showing. Look for us at the next DGAHA Open Show on July 11th!
